Keystone began the way most good things in Pennsylvania do - with stone. Frank Kessler was a third-generation mason in Lancaster County who spent thirty years setting arches, and he liked to tell his crews the same thing every time they set one: the keystone carries nothing by itself - it is the stone that makes all the others hold. In 1984, tired of watching neighbors get burned by fly-by-night contractors who blew into town after every storm and blew out just as fast, Frank put his name behind a promise instead of a trade: one company where the roofer, the plumber, and the furnace man all answered to the same standard, the way crews did when his grandfather worked. What started as three trucks in the Keystone State is now a family of trade companies across the American heartland - each one locally run, each one held in place by the same center stone.
